I am getting far along in creating seven paper quilts for an exhibition I have coming up at the Dallas Public Library, Main Branch in October 2017.
I also have a calligraphy summer camp for children ages 6-10 coming up July 5-7 from 1 to 4p, and an Intro to Calligraphy class Friday, July 14, 2017 at 6:30p.
I had a wonderful time as always being the Intuitive Calligrapher (a terrific idea by Shannon Driscoll). I was the Intuitive Calligrapher this Saturday from 3-5p at the Dallas Festival of Ideas with Oil and Cotton. Connecting with people through this activity is immensely enjoyable and so special.
This Friday, April 28 at 6:30p I will have a Pen and Ink class at Oil and Cotton. In this class we will cover warm-ups, how to hold and ink your pen (we will be working with a classroom set of nibs, pen holders, and ink for left and right handed students), and Foundational Hand lowercase and uppercase. We will also make accordion style booklets.
Beginning April 28 at 10a thru May 6 at 10a, I will be accepting registration for an online Italic Calligraphy course that will be offered through Vimeo. Calligraphy is a wonderful and accessible skill to have. Italic is simply elegant and legible, which makes it a great introduction to writing calligraphy. In this 3 part course, learn this versatile style and use it for handwriting projects like envelope addressing, invitations, and more.
This Saturday, April 29 11a-5p, Oil and Cotton will be participating in the Festival of Ideas. I will be the Intuitive Calligrapher (a stupendous idea by Shannon Driscoll) from 3 to 5p. It's an exhilarating experience were I look into the eyes of each visitor, I write the first word I feel, and the participant walks away with a personalized, handwritten word.
I had the pleasure of taking a class by Lyndsay Wright of Lyndsay Wright Design. It was a wonderful experience. I take classes in order to learn, keep up good habits, and make new friends in calligraphy. Taking classes and seeing calligraphy standards I strive to meet, keeps me motivated to always improve and strengthens my love of lettering.
I have two summer camps coming up at Oil and Cotton: Cursive and Callligraphy June 20-23 1-4PM for ages 7-12 and Cursive Writing and Bookbinding August 15-18 1-4PM.
